What to Expect at Your Award Video Shoot

Congratulations on winning an award from the McKinney Chamber of Commerce! As part of the award presentation, Celebrate Media Group will create a short film about who you are and the motivation that drives you.

Here’s what to expect:

Setup Time

We’ll set up lights, cameras and audio equipment at your selected time and location to prepare for the interviews. It typically takes about 30 minutes to set everything up.

Interview

In the interview, we’ll ask you about what you’ve done in the community and what inspires you to make McKinney a better place. This is your chance to tell your own story in your own words, something unique for every person.

The interviews typically take about 20 minutes.

We’ll ask you to talk about some of the things you’ve done and the motivation behind them. Do you have a personal hero who inspires you? A guiding principle or religious faith? A moment that changed your life? All those things can make for an engaging film, so be thinking about what you’re willing to share about your life’s story.

Invite Your Friends

To add to your story, feel free to invite close friends, colleagues or family members who are willing to talk on camera during your scheduled time slot. After we interview you, they can sit down to tell stories or share their feelings about you.

Be Yourself

You’re getting this award because of who you are, and we want your personality to come through on camera. The best way to do that is simply to be yourself!

Please don’t try to memorize exact wording. We want you to speak from the heart because that makes a better video than stiff, rehearsed, polished soundbites.

We’ll carefully edit the finished film, so don’t worry about saying everything flawlessly on camera. If you stumble over your words, that’s perfectly normal. Just restart the sentence and we’ll edit it to make you sound great.

Think of B-Roll Ideas

After the interviews, we’ll film B-roll shots that illustrate your life in action. These will be video pictures with no sound. Stereotypical B-roll shots are things like:

  • Talking on the phone
  • Typing on the computer
  • Walking in the hallway while talking with a colleague
  • Reading a book to your kids

Try to think of locations, actions or props you could bring that illustrate the things you’ll be talking about. Examples: A coach might bring a football to toss around at the stadium. A college student could bring a backpack and textbooks to film around campus. A preacher could bring a Bible to film shots at their church.

Obviously, this depends heavily on what it is you want to share, but we’ve very open to your ideas for illustrating what you do. We can go to a few different locations if needed to help tell your story. We’ve blocked off half the day to create your film and are happy to accommodate your needs to create a great story.
